About the Voluntary Organisation:
Centru Tbexbix
The Sunrise Centre (Centru Tbexbix), founded in 2006, is a centre located in a 17 th century house,
that has undergone extensive restoration, in Cospicua Malta. During these years, the centre has
provided a safe and loving environment for educational and social service programmes for the all-
round development of children, youth and elderly from the Cottonera area. The programmes offered
aim to provide opportunities for learning and personal growth so that people are encouraged and
empowered to develop themselves and to improve their socio-economic situation. All education
programmes are based on the principles of Neohumanistic Education. The main programmes are:
• children’s after school activities (h.w. help, creativity, all aspects of physical, mental and emotional
development, interculturality and other aspects of human development).
• a morning summer club with similar activities as the after school programme.
• a morning programme for schools who visit the centre for a morning experience of yoga, healthy
living, creativity and interculturality.
• A programme for the vulnerable elderly in the community providing support and help with basic
needs.
• A variety of activities for elderly to encourage life long learning and active aging.
• Volunteer training is carried on regularly, inspiring young people to take civic and
social responsibility and support vulnerable community members.
