Typical responsibilities:
- Translate short stories and poetry from Italian into English, preserving tone, style, and meaning
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director and editorial team to ensure accuracy, fluidity, and cultural sensitivity
- Adapt literary texts for an English-speaking audience while maintaining the author’s voice
- Maintain consistency in terminology and register across multiple texts
- Help shape the final English version of texts intended for publication or online release
Desirable skills:
- Strong command of both Italian and English, with excellent written English
- Academic or professional experience in translating literary texts (prose and/or poetry)
- Sensitivity to tone, rhythm, and nuance in literary language
- Interest in working on an upcoming creative editorial project and supporting the translation of literary texts for Janas’s official events
- Ability to work collaboratively and respond thoughtfully to editorial feedback
- Willingness to grow professionally in the field of literary translations and overall as a human being
