About the Voluntary Organisation:

Każin San Ġużepp and De Rohan

The Każin San Ġużepp and De Rohan band club earned its name when the De Rohan band, the first band created on the island in 1860, merged with the feast of St Joseph Club in 1910. Historian Pietru Pawl Castagna made the first reference to the De Rohan band club in his works, which were first published in 1888. In his works, he wrote that the first formed band club on the islands is found in the village of Ħaż-Żebbuġ by Maestro Indri Borġ in 1860. Reverend Dun Salv Ciappara corroborated this fact in his book “Storia del Zebbug e Sua Parrochia” published in 1882; he wrote the village of Żebbuġ saw the creation of the first band club on the island. Since the band club is recognised as the first one on the island, Omm il-Baned, has laid the foundations for many other band clubs that can be found on the island. The leading roles as a society are to provide music tuition by accredited music teachers, organise one of the local village feasts, and promote Maltese culture.
