Typical responsibilities:

  • Event assistance and outreach, including regular activities such as Science in the City and Malta Café Scientifique, as well as occasional engagements like career fairs or school visits where MCS is invited to share student experiences and promote STEM pathways to younger audiences.
  • Volunteers may also contribute to content creation and communication by preparing social media posts and blog articles that explain research in lay terms or highlight different routes to science careers.
  • They may help organise student debates on topical science-related issues.

Desirable skills:

Students need to be studying a STEM subject, and have a interest in science communication

The Malta Chamber of Scientists

The Malta Chamber of Scientists (MCS), founded in 1992, is a professional organisation that brings together scientists, academics, and students to promote science in Malta. It raises public awareness of science, encourages careers in STEM, supports local research, and provides evidence-based input to national policy. The Chamber organises initiatives such as Science in the City, Malta Café Scientifique, and publishes the peer-reviewed journal Xjenza Online.
