How it works

What is the Youth Voluntary Service?
The Youth Voluntary Service is a programme which aims to assist young people in becoming active volunteers through facilitating volunteering opportunities to help the community.
The Youth volunteers in the YVS Local programme have the opportunity to volunteer with a voluntary organisation of their choice from 2 months up to a maximum of 6 months whilst benefitting from a monthly stipend. The renumeration rate is at €3.50 per hour for a maximum of 15 hours every week.
The YVS Overseas programme allows youth volunteers to participate in volunteering projects coordinated by local Voluntary Organisations. The overseas missions can take part in Europe, Asia, Africa, Gulf Countries and South America and can range between 2 weeks and 3 months. This programme covers up to €2,500 in costs relating to mobility, flights and insurance for Youth volunteers participating in this programme.
At the end of the voluntary service, youth volunteers receive a certificate of participation which is valid for academic accreditation, Youthpass and Europass.
How it works
Application
Once youths submit their application, they will be provided with a tailored list of voluntary organisations with whom they can choose to carry out the voluntary service.
Organisation Visit
The youth volunteers will be required to visit the organisation in order to confirm their interest to volunteer with that VO. If the visit is successful, the youths are to send a confirmation email to the VO and the MCVS Officer.
Contract & Meeting
Volunteers will be asked to sign a contract and sit for an online meeting to go over YVS reporting responsibilities.
Monthly Reporting / Tasks
The Youth volunteer is to fill weekly attendance sheets. These are to be signed and sent to the voluntary organisation at the end of the month for verification. The Youth Volunteer needs to complete one of the tasks from the Youth Volunteer Journal by the end of every month of the placement.
Host Voluntary Organisation
Youths who wish to participate in voluntary missions overseas are required to find a local voluntary organisation which participates in voluntary projects overseas. The voluntary organisations are responsible for submitting the YVS Overseas application.
Contract & Meeting
Once the Application has been approved, youth volunteers will be asked to sign a contract and sit for an online meeting to discuss expectations and YVS reporting responsibilities.
Report and Renumeration
The youth volunteers will receive 50% renumeration prior to the start of the overseas mission and 50% of the renumeration after the submission of a narrative report at the end of the voluntary service.
